Books Max · local accounting

Books that stay explainable.

An offline-first accounting workspace for invoices, receivables, payables, inventory and close review—grounded in balanced double-entry records and explicit human approval.

The accounting core

Operational depth without hidden decisions.

Books Max connects day-to-day documents to controlled records. Each irreversible step remains visible, reviewable and attributable.

AR

Sales and receivables

Clients, products, quotes, invoices, credit notes, customer payments, ageing and reminder-draft workflows.

GL

Double-entry ledger

Chart of accounts, balanced journals, trial balance, fiscal periods and append-only reversal paths.

BK

Bank review

Statement import, explainable candidate review, confirmed matching and reconciliation corrections.

AP

Purchasing and payables

Suppliers, purchase orders, goods receipts, three-way bill matching, supplier credits and reviewed payment runs.

IN

Inventory controls

Locations, stock movements, reservations and reviewed backorder handling tied to operational evidence.

CL

Close and adviser review

Readiness cockpit, segregated period close, fixed assets, VAT workpapers and accountant evidence packs.

Control path

Review is part of the workflow.

Capture

Import documents and statements into a local review inbox.

Explain

Inspect extracted fields, source links and proposed accounting treatment.

Approve

Confirm postings, matches, allocations and close tasks explicitly.

Evidence

Retain journal, correction and period-review history for handoff.

Evidence preparation, not silent certification.

VAT filing is fail closed. Books Max prepares reviewable workpapers; it does not claim to file with SARS or replace a qualified accountant. Bank candidates do not post themselves, and closed-period changes require a controlled reopen path.

Books Max in depth

Books Max

Offline invoicing, quotes, clients, products and expenses. Data stays on your machine, and the core tools need no account or internet.

  • Invoices, quotes, client and product lists, and expense records.
  • An accounting core with exact-decimal amounts, a chart of accounts, balanced append-only journals and trial balances.
  • Corrections made only by reversal, so posted records are never overwritten.
  • Ledger-backed customer receipts and credit notes, posted by explicit confirmed actions.
  • A banking reconciliation inbox: import statements, detect duplicates and confirm matches to invoices or expenses.
  • CSV and JSON export of your records.

Limits: Bank and tax-provider connections stay switched off until approved credentials and launch checks are in place. Close workflows cover a single set of books, not a multi-client practice.

How it works

  1. It is a separate desktop product on Culltron's shared, hardened platform, with its own full editor and local workspace.
  2. A local, authenticated runtime serves the editor. Your files stay on your machine.
  3. A signed licence lease unlocks the paid edition, and Ultra X27 features are enforced by the server, not just hidden.
  4. Changes write new copies, usually with checksum receipts, so originals are not overwritten.
