Books Max: accounting where every action is reviewed
Status, 14 October 2026: Culltron desktop apps are launch candidates. Access is gated and no public installer is published yet. This page describes how the product works today in our release candidates.
Books Max is an offline-first accounting workspace for invoices, receivables, payables, inventory and period close. It's built on balanced double-entry records, and every irreversible step needs a person to approve it.
What's inside
- Sales and receivables: clients, products, quotes, invoices, credit notes, customer payments, ageing, and drafted reminders.
- Ledger: chart of accounts, balanced journals, trial balance, fiscal periods and append-only reversals.
- Bank review: import a statement, review explained match suggestions, then confirm. Nothing posts automatically.
- Purchasing and payables: suppliers, purchase orders, goods receipts, three-way bill matching and supplier credits.
VAT: workpapers, not filing
Books Max prepares VAT evidence workpapers for you or your accountant to review. It does not file with SARS. Filing is switched off on purpose.
See Books Max.
About Books Max
Books Max
Offline invoicing, quotes, clients, products and expenses. Data stays on your machine, and the core tools need no account or internet.
- Invoices, quotes, client and product lists, and expense records.
- An accounting core with exact-decimal amounts, a chart of accounts, balanced append-only journals and trial balances.
- Corrections made only by reversal, so posted records are never overwritten.
- Ledger-backed customer receipts and credit notes, posted by explicit confirmed actions.
- A banking reconciliation inbox: import statements, detect duplicates and confirm matches to invoices or expenses.
- CSV and JSON export of your records.
Limits: Bank and tax-provider connections stay switched off until approved credentials and launch checks are in place. Close workflows cover a single set of books, not a multi-client practice.
Release status: built and tested in the repository. A public download appears only after signing, checksum verification and release approval; see Downloads.
